Welcome to my website! My name is Catherine Alexander. I'm a fiction writer, teacher, and resident of the state of Washington. I've taught fiction and memoir writing at the University of Washington. I currently teach privately.
If you're looking for help with a short story or memoir, please send me an email by clicking the letter icon below these paragraphs. If you'd like examples of my short stories, please visit the "short stories" page. I am also available for private writing instruction.
My literary work reveals the underside of society. These stories celebrate humanity, often on the cusp of survival. My characters are edgy yet sympathetic, crazy yet wise, sneering yet soulful. A countess lives in a school bus, a girl imagines her own wake, a gypsy walks through Rome, and Puerto Ricans dance on Manhattan's 74th Street. Also featured are mothers and grandmothers practicing the oldest profession, honorable hobos, Vietnam vets, and playful odd couples.
